Get your free estimateMighty Mule Access Control Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible access control parts across Fort Worth, with most keypad, intercom, and controller replacements running $220 to $480 installed. We keep the most common Mighty Mule parts on our trucks, so a same-day swap is usually possible when you call before early afternoon. The way owners typically find us: the keypad works sometimes, the intercom buzzes but won’t release the gate, or the gate simply won’t respond to the remote that worked fine last week. The part fails quietly at first, then all at once.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule has built gate openers for over 30 years, and the access control side covers everything from the classic MM200/MM260 swing gate series to the newer MM371W and MM571W smart models. The compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Fort Worth is owners buying a universal aftermarket keypad that doesn’t speak the same language as their Mighty Mule’s control board. Mighty Mule access panels and keypads use a specific terminal layout and signal logic. If you’re holding a part and unsure, look for the model number on the control board itself, usually printed near the terminal block where the wires land. The OEM Mighty Mule part is always the safest call, but there are quality aftermarket equivalents for older MM series units that run about 30 to 40 percent less. We’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your gate.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad takes multiple presses before it responds: The membrane or tactile switches inside are wearing out. In Fort Worth’s summer heat, the adhesive layers inside keypads dry out and crack, which is why we see more keypad failures here in August than any other month.
- Gate won’t release after a valid code: This usually isn’t the keypad itself. The relay on the Mighty Mule control board has failed or the connection between the access panel and the board has corroded. We can bench-test the board and tell you which part actually died.
- Intercom works but the gate never opens: The call path is fine. The output signal isn’t reaching the opener’s control input. We trace the low-voltage wiring and find the break, often at a splice point that’s been baked by sun and chewed by ants.
- Remote works, keypad doesn’t (or vice versa): Since the remote talks to the opener directly and the keypad goes through the access control input, one failing while the other works points to the access controller or keypad itself, not the opener.
- Water damage visible behind the keypad face: North Texas thunderstorms are brutal on outdoor electronics. The gasket behind the keypad ages and shrinks, then a sideways downpour becomes the problem. Replacement is usually the right call once corrosion starts.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, you can expect to pay about $220 to $480 installed for most Mighty Mule access control replacements, including the part. A basic keypad swap at the low end, a full intercom/keypad/controller refresh at the high end, and if we need to run new low-voltage wire from the panel to the gate, that adds slightly more depending on the distance. You’ll always get a written price before we touch anything, the number on the invoice is the number you approved at the door. And every Mighty Mule access control installation we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within 365 days, we come back at no charge. No fine print, no restocking fee, no runaround.
DIY or Call Us?
Some owners start by checking the obvious: the keypad batteries, the wire nuts behind the panel, and whether the breaker for the opener is on. Those are safe checks, and we’ll happily walk you through them over the phone. What we don’t recommend is opening the Mighty Mule control board housing and probing terminals with a multimeter if you’re not familiar with low-voltage diagnostics. Mighty Mule boards have exposed 120V landing points inside the opener cabinet, and that’s a real shock and short-circuit hazard. FAQs
A Mighty Mule keypad or access panel installed outdoors in Fort Worth typically lasts 5 to 7 years before heat, rain, and sun take a toll. Covered or shaded keypads stretch that to 8 or more years. If your keypad is over 5 years old and acting up, replacement usually costs less than repeated service calls to keep it alive. Call (682) 432-9830 and we’ll get you a straight answer on whether it’s worth repairing.
Sometimes yes. Corroded wire connections, blown onboard fuses, or water in the terminal block can often be cleaned and restored without replacing the whole unit. But once the keypad membrane or the relay on the control board fails, replacement is the more reliable and honest path. We’ll bench-test your part and give you a repair-versus-replace recommendation before charging anything.
Most Mighty Mule keypad and access control replacements take 45 to 90 minutes once we’re on site. If new wire runs are needed between the panel and the gate, add about another 30 to 45 minutes depending on distance and how difficult the path is. You’ll know the full plan and price before work starts. Call (682) 432-9830 for a same-day check on availability.
We stock the most common Mighty Mule keypads, access panels, and control board relays on our trucks, so many Fort Worth replacements happen on the first visit. For less common parts or newer smart-model components, we can usually source them from our local suppliers same day or next day. Calder Gate Repair Fort Worth is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mighty Mule, and we also keep parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing on hand.
