LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

Most LiftMaster welding and fabrication work in Fort Worth runs $185 – $420 installed, and we stock the common brackets, hinge reinforcements, and gate frame patches on the truck so a lot of these jobs are done the same day we show up. What owners usually notice first is a gate that sags, drags, or makes a grinding noise where metal meets metal. The welds on LiftMaster-equipped gates fail slowly, then all at once: a hairline crack near a hinge plate, a bracket that pulls loose from the post, or a wheel track that’s worn through and letting the gate lean into the opener.

The short version: we weld it right the first time, the steel matches what’s already there, and the price you’re quoted is the price on the invoice. No callbacks, no “while we were in there” surprises. Nico Alvarez has been fixing gates around Fort Worth long enough to know which welds hold on our clay soil and which ones crack again by spring.

Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To

Welding and fabrication work doesn’t care much about the circuit board, but it does care about how the opener mounts and how the gate moves. The LiftMaster LA400, LA412, LA500, RSW12, and the older residential CSL24 line all have slightly different bracket footprints and arm geometry. What matters for fabrication is the gate type and weight: a wrought-iron gate on a LA400 needs thinner, cleaner welds on decorative pickets, while a heavy tube-steel gate running a RSW12 swing arm usually needs structural plate reinforcement at the hinge and the opener mount point.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most Fort Worth owners run into: LiftMaster ships post-mount brackets that assume a flat, square steel post. Half the posts we see in neighborhoods like Summerfields and Wedgwood are round, rusted, or set at a slight lean. That’s where fabrication comes in. We build custom plates that adapt the LiftMaster arm to the post that actually exists, not the post the installation diagram imagines.

When you look at your opener, check the model sticker on the back of the control box. The model tells us which arm and bracket set you have. The gate itself tells us the rest. We take measurements on site: post diameter, gate weight, hinge spacing, and panel material. We stock OEM LiftMaster brackets for the common models, and for custom work we carry A36 steel plate, schedule 40 tube, and TIG-friendly rod for aluminum gates. On the aftermarket question: for straight brackets, OEM is worth the few extra dollars because the hole spacing is exact. For fabricated plates and reinforcements, our shop-built steel is thicker and better fitted than any stamped replacement part you’d order sight unseen.

Signs Your LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags toward the latch side. This usually means a hinge weld is stretching or a hinge bracket is pulling away from the post. The opener is now fighting more weight than it was built for, and the clutch or force limiter starts tripping.
  • The opener arm makes a clunking sound at the start and end of travel. The bolt hole in the bracket has wallowed out, or the bolt itself is bent. The metal is moving before the gate does, which means the weld or bracket is loose and slamming through the play.
  • The gate scrapes the ground on one side. Often a broken weld at the top hinge or a bent frame rail, not a ground issue. The gate frame has twisted, and the opener is dragging it along the swing path.
  • You can see daylight through a weld joint. Hairline cracks near hinges or opener mounts let you see through the joint when you push on the gate. That crack is spreading every time the opener cycles, and it will fail without warning, usually at the worst time.
  • The opener runs but the gate barely moves. The rack or chain bracket has broken its weld and the motor is just spinning against a free wheel or dragging a hanging chain. This is a fast way to burn out a gearbox.

If any of these sound like your gate, call us at (682) 432-9830 before the opener takes damage it shouldn’t.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, expect these ranges before parts:

  • Bracket replacement with new hinge welds: $185 – $310 installed, including grinding out the old welds and primer on the new steel.
  • Custom plate fabrication for a mismatched post: $260 – $420, which includes onsite measuring, cutting and drilling the plate, and re-hanging the opener arm.
  • Gate frame straightening and re-welding: $300 – $650 depending on how much of the frame is comproised and whether we’re removing the gate to jig it straight or working on it in place.
  • Rack or chain bracket re-weld: $150 – $240, usually a same-day fix if the rail is otherwise sound.

The price you hear on the phone or at the door is the price on the invoice. Parts are line-itemed, labor is quoted in writing before the welder fires up, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing. If the weld cracks or the bracket shifts within a year, Calder returns at no charge. That’s the whole point of the guarantee: a weld that fails was our weld to redo, not your problem to chase.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the straight talk. You can check the obvious: push the gate by hand with the opener disengaged and feel where it’s loose. Look at the hinge bolts and the bracket bolts and see if they’re pulling through. You can even clean the grime off a suspect joint to get a better look at the crack. What we’d rather you not do is fire up a 110-volt flux-core welder on a gate that’s still attached to a $900 opener. A bad ground will fry the control board. A weld done wrong on a load-bearing hinge lets the gate fall on someone. And cutting a bracket off a tensioned gate can release stored energy in a way that ends with a hospital visit.

Welding is the one repair where the stakes are physical, not just financial. If the thought process is “I’ll give it a shot and call if it doesn’t work,” call us first. Tell me what the gate is doing, or not doing, and we’ll tell you exactly what it needs. (682) 432-9830. Estimates are free, and so is the second visit if our weld ever lets you down inside a year.
